WHY SPECIALTY COFFEE?
Goat Head Coffee Co. is in the TOP 3% of the coffee produced worldwide classified as “specialty grade”. According to the SCA (Specialty Coffee Association), specialty coffee refers to the “highest quality green coffee beans roasted to their greatest flavor potential by true craftspeople”.
Specialty coffee is different from other coffee because it has been grown at the perfect altitude, at the correct time of year, in the best soil, and then picked at just the right time. It is roasted in small batches to maintain freshness and monitor quality.
Goat Head Coffee offers a variety of delicious coffee all of which have received a grade considered to be ‘excellent’ or ‘outstanding’ by a certified Q-Grader on the SCA quality scale. This scale measures fragrance, aroma, flavor, aftertaste, acidity, body, uniformity, balance, clean cup, sweetness, and overall taste.

Plant & Harvesting
Great coffee starts with a plant harvested in the perfect climate. Goat Head Coffee offers a collection of coffee that are derived from some of the top coffee regions including South America, Central America, and Africa. Our plants are picked only when ripe and are harvested by hand. This process is labor-intensive but is also what creates finer Arabica beans.
Processing & Milling
Milling is the transitional step in the life of a coffee bean, once a plant, to transform into high-quality coffee. Extreme care is necessary to achieve a superior bean so that its flavor is not lost in the process. There are two method types- wet and dry. Goat Head Coffee Co. uses the wet method which has been proven to produce a better quality coffee.
Roasting & Cupping
Roasting is when heat is applied to a coffee bean, allowing its most important properties to shine. It is then that a highly qualified “cupper” tests the quality of the coffee. They also determine which beans create the best blends. Finding that perfect balance of flavor and aroma is what makes specialty coffee like Goat Head Coffee so unique.
